Hey Guys ,

I've been experiencing something odd for some weeks now.

I have a website that ranks very high in a low compt niche. Most of the keywords (if not all) are in position 1 - 5 and have been like that for months.

Normally whenever i add a new post , it takes about 2 - 3 days to get on page 1 and about 5 days to be in top 3.

But i noticed that new posts are not ranking at all. I've published about 4 posts in the last 2 weeks and they're all indexed but not ranking AT ALL on google search. Meanwhile old posts are still doing fine and there's no drop in rankings.

This is very strange and i really don't understand what's going on. I checked webmasters tools and there's no manual spam penalty.

This site gets links naturally and i haven't done any link building this year.

I feel like google is saying :

"From now on , we're not going to rank any of your new post but your old posts will remain in their position"

Everything takes longer these days, most probably your website is fine

Really hope so. Been worried lately as this is my major earner.

Will keep monitoring and see what happens

I wouldn't worry at all unless your old rankings tank. If you don't build backlinks it can take months for your site to settle into its' final position.

This is 9 months of waiting without adding any backlinks to the page. The first couple months it didn't even rank in the top 100. Sometimes you'll pop right up on page 2, other times this will happen.

@Encrypted, it's strange. Sometimes I'll pop right to #1, top 3 or 5, or page 2. Sometimes Page 3 or higher and I slowly crawl up over months like Calamari said.

I think this behavior is probably tied into Google's patent where they give randomized and delayed results for a while to pages that are doing something SEO related. Sometimes the randomization means doing nothing and letting it rank immediately, which I see more often than not.

But sometimes I do see weird indexation issues too, where a page never ranks and pops up in my tracker, then I find that it never was indexed. So I request indexation and poof, there it is.

I wish I had a definitive answer, but all I can say is that this is pretty typical.

A thing to double check would be to make sure you haven't over-used the phrase you want to rank for on the pages that aren't ranking. That can tank you to below spot 100 real fast.

UPDATE :

Ranking slowly coming back. One of my new posts that wasn't even in the top 100 is now on position 3 - 5 on first page. This happened OVERNIGHT!!

I wrote this article early July so I guess the waiting time is about 2weeks.

Will keep monitoring to see what happens. I'm damn happy it wasn't a penalty
