Newbie Question(s) so dumb, you're afraid to even ask!

Hey everyone, I have another question! How important do you think it is to have a good-looking portfolio site? I feel it's really important, so I am rebuilding my site in HTML. Currently, it looks terrible, and I feel its poor design turns off clients and makes me look unprofessional. My second question is, what do you guys think of building the site in HTML? Am I overcomplicating things, and should I just use Wix or WordPress? Interested to hear your thoughts and how you have built sites in the past! Thanks guys.
 
@Naturellement, as a marketer/writer, you don't need to worry about learning HTML and CSS and all that. You can buy an HTML template and replace the text and images, but even that requires you to know some HTML and CSS. You'd probably have the easiest time using a CMS like Wordpress where there's a user interface to help you make all the changes you want to a template. And from there, there's endless free and paid themes for you to choose from that'll get you from ugly to noice much faster than tinkering with HTML (and mainly CSS) if you don't already know it. You can find themes in the Wordpress repository or places like ThemeForest.

I think you're right! I have been tinkering with the HTML with the help of Claude and honestly its not going too well so I think I am just gonna convert my Wix website into a WordPress site as I have more experience with WordPress. I can't remember why I even want with Wix in the first place. HTML would probably be best if I knew what I was doing but unfortunately I do not.

The story isn't interesting, but it does go like this: I once, in the distant past, tinkered with the idea of starting an internet marketing forum. Bought the domain even. It involved the word "Architect", so when this new rendition was being created, @MetaData tossed out the world "Builder" during a brainstorming session and we went from there.

Quick question on AI if anyone knows LMK. Let's say I wanted to automate as many aspects via AI for something like how would I do it?

Let's say I wanted to create a youtube video on how to upload a video on youtube.

And let's say I just screen record, is there a way to QUICKLY using AI or something, create zoom effects in specific section, or let's say it highlights an area and it does a little pan effect/super slow zoom in/or out or to the top or to the bottom and where it'd make a specific area the spotlight like make the other areas have shadow/dropshadow? (Rather doing these things tediously in a video editor) And just throw up script and it'd sync in with AI audio or create AI audio?

Sort of videos like:

Haven't found a good solution for this. I know people are building it, though.
 
what's the blueprint for IM these days? is it still backlinks, high page rank domains, and stuff like that?

In general, yes. This is assuming you have your on-page SEO and technical SEO in place (page speed and the like, any markup and schema, etc.).

Things have changed again to where the informational websites many were building in this last generation are no longer viable. Google doesn't want to rank them, has stolen their content, and presents it as AI overviews and other knowledge-panel-esque features. There's a handful of magazines publishing online that seem to have been whitelisted and the rest is a gamble, because I think the data is showing that 60%+ of informational searches (and others) now end without a click to a website. So even if you hit the #1 spot in the SERPs, you're getting a fraction of the traffic it used to be.

There are styles of sites that don't seem to have been affected by this, which are basically ones that allow for interaction or shopping. eCommerce, SaaS sites, pages with calculators and things of that nature seem to do okay for now.

But info sites where you slather it in display ads or product reviews with affiliate links, all of that is being purposefully crushed.

100% agree, my ecommerce sites were untouched. Ive been advising my clients to convert some of their info only site to more ecommerce (doesn't have to have too many SKUs, a few skus, a shopping cart, checkout page, shipping page, refund page can help)
 
I am new here, just read a couple of posts from Final Boss, especially the Avalanche Technique. I am totally blown away by how actual SEO works. You nailed it BOSS.
 
What are the queries that Google Search Console shows about a blog? Like are they just keywords people use to reach our blog?

Yes, basically. At least some of them.
Google doesn't show most of them but you can still learn a lot from the ones they do show.
 
I'm an SEO content writer at a technology company. I often write on comparison articles with the keyword "vs" in them like Salesforce vs HubSpot: Which is better?, Agentic AI vs Generative AI: what's the difference? But I have noticed topics with these keywords aren't getting ranked despite low KD. On the other hand, I've written on keywords with KD above 60 and they are ranking in top 10. Why is that so? does Google require more authority for comparison articles?

It boils down to KD not being a very reliable metric. It's better to look at the top 10 manually, check their backlink profile and characteristics of the article. Length, sub topic coverage, FAQs, etc.
 
How do ya'll deal with somebody claiming your work is theirs online? It hasn't happened to me yet but I've seen people post their graphic designs online (page or profile etc.) and having others claim it as their own by adding it to their portfolio.

So, my question is two-fold:
  1. Do you even bother with it or do you just not care?
  2. How do you prevent this?
    • Right now I know of: watermarking (can be removed with AI), signing it (crop it out), and digital signatures (verifies authorship but still doesn't stop people from resharing)
So is "imitation the sincerest form of flattery" or is there a legit way to crack down on people? I personally don't bother with it, but if it causes me problems in my own business - then I don't really know what I'd do.

I'm not sure where you're located, but in the USA the main means of taking care of this is a DMCA takedown request. This is the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. You can send one to Google, their hosting provider, their registrar, to the social network they're using your stuff on. Most of the big ones like Google, Facebook, YouTube, etc., all have their own "portals" for you to use to submit these takedowns.

The thing that's nice for people being infringed upon and not nice for fake takedowns is that the platforms have to act first and then ask questions later. And what this usually means is the infringer won't even fight back because it requires effort and they know they're guilty.

Some things you just have to chalk up to being "the way of the internet" too and ask yourself, is this just part of the culture, is this worth fighting, is it even truly possible to lock this down or will I spend all waking hours fighting it, and so forth.
